A novel full-duplex LO-free 60-GHz radio-over-fiber (RoF) transmission system is proposed. Full-duplex error-free transmission without optical/electrical LO required in either remote antenna units or mobile terminals is successfully demonstrated for next generation wireless communications.
Methods on rendering neurons in the central nervous system to be light responsive has led to a boom in using optical neuromodulation as a new approach for controlling brain states and understanding neural circuits. In addition to the developing versatility to “optogenetically” labeling of neural cells and their subtypes by microbiological methods, parallel efforts are under way to design and implement...
In Brillouin-distribution fiber sensing system, it is important to get narrow-line-width and stable optical pulse as input light. Based on this point, the optical modulations have being studied and it was found that the external modulation using lithium niobate (LiNbO3) electro-optics modulator in Brillouin distribution fiber sensing system was good choice. This paper introduced this kind of modulation,...
Neural stimulation and recording with high spatiotemporal precision is desirable for studying the real time cellular basis of neural circuits, as well as developing possible therapeutic treatments for neurological diseases. Optical stimulation of genetically targeted neurons expressing the light sensitive ion channel protein Channelrhodopsin (ChR2) and Halorhodopsin (NpHR) has recently been reported...
We examine the social behaviors of game experts in Everquest II, a popular massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMO). We rely on exponential random graph models (ERGM) to examine the anonymous privacy-protected social networks of 1,457 players over a five-day period. We find that those who achieve the most in the game send and receive more communication, while those who perform the most efficiently...
An all-optical counter is presented using cascaded stages composed by SOA fiber laser based optical flip-flops and SOA four wave mixing AND logic gates. Two-bit all-optical pulse counting and optical frequency division are demonstrated.
The fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technique for optical fiber-based temperature sensing is discussed in many previous papers. But in the high temperature sensing the FIR technique has been researched a little. In this paper, the temperature dependence of fluorescence in erbium-doped fiber between ∼700 and ∼1300°C is discussed and experimentally demonstrated. 1450nm and 1530nm wavelengths are...
We experimentally demonstrate optical delay of a novel star-16QAM signal through a silicon microring resonator. Delay time of ∼ 30ps is observed by comparing the eye diagram of the star-16QAM signal on-resonance with that off-resonance.
Continuously-tunable slow and fast light is experimentally demonstrated using silicon microring add-drop filter with mutual mode coupling. Pulse delay and advancement can be achieved by thermal tuning at the drop port of the resonator.
