Chirped IRZ downstream is used together with a delay interferometer and a RSOA at a low complexity ONU for full-duplex 10.5Gbps transmission on a single wavelength, supported by modulation format conversion and optical offset filtering.
Direct communication between ONUs is experimentally demonstrated with a tunable MG-Y laser in a ring+tree PON for 640 users, without passing electrically powered equipment.
Doubling of the downstream rate by reusing the reflective upstream modulator is demonstrated. With just two photo-detectors, a RSOA and a power splitter at the ONU, a 20/10 Gbps mode can be provided per wavelength.
Full-duplex 10Gb/s transmission is demonstrated on a single wavelength with RSOA-based ONUs, whose amplified spontaneous emission establishes a pump for remote amplification to overcome the loss budget, avoiding any pump delivery from the central office.
