Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of Nd3+ doped GdVO4, YVO4, LuVO4 and Y3Al5O12 were determined by temperature wave method. At 1 at% Nd3+ doping concentration YVO4 in c-cut showed the highest thermal conductivity than GdVO4 and Y3Al5O12. Thermal anisotropy was found in highly Nd3+ doped level of GdVO4 in c-cut and [110] directions.
We realized ah 879 nm-LD-pumped Nd:GdVO/sub 4/ laser with maximum slope efficiency of 78%. Thermal conductivity and the thermal lens effect were measured for characterization of the thermal property of the laser.
We succeeded to grow high quality Nd:GdVO/sub 4/ single crystals by the floating zone method. The slope efficiency of 78% was achieved with pumping at 879 nm using a 2 at.% Nd-doped crystal.
