A 2.5G/10G co-existing OFDMA-PON is demonstrated through 20km SSMF with 31dB loss budget. Only one receiver at the OLT and low-speed transceiver at the 2.5G ONUs are required, thereby reducing system complexity and cost.
In this paper, we overview the fundamental principles of next-generation optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA)-PON systems, with a particular focus on upstream architectures capable of achieving 10+ Gb/s colorless upstream transmission. We also propose a novel OFDMA-PON architecture that satisfies these requirements and is capable of exceeding 10 Gb/s upstream transmission...
For the first time, we demonstrate colorless 44-Gb/s/λ, upstream OFDMA-PON transmission with polarization-insensitive, source-free ONUs. Superior performance is reported over 20 km SSMF plus 1:32 split, featuring OLT-side coherent detection and no ONU-side temperature control.
