Applying RF circuit design techniques to dc-dc power conversion has pushed the switching frequency of power converters using discrete components beyond 100 MHz. This paper proposes a simple solution to implement synchronous rectification for resonant dc-dc power converters operating in the Very-High-Frequency (VHF) range, by using a symmetric bandpass matching network between the inverter and rectifier...
We demonstrate the noise characteristics of crystalline whispering gallery mode (WGM) microresonators and the microresonator-stabilized lasers at the fundamental thermodynamic limit. We study environmental sensitivity of the microresonators, stabilize them, and demonstrate a WGM resonator stabilized laser characterized with 25 Hz linewidth and 32 Hz Allan deviation measured at 100 ms integration time.
We study several kinds of low-threshold crystalline whispering gallery mode resonator-based OPOs emitting broadband optical spectra. The parametric process is phase matched due to interaction of different mode families, as well as contribution from the interplay of second- and higher-order group velocity dispersion.
We have designed and fabricated a Kerr frequency comb oscillator with 27.5 GHz repetition rate by pumping a whispering gallery mode crystalline resonator with a laser at 1560 nm center wavelength. The oscillator is stabilized to the Rb$^{87}$ D$_2$ line using frequency doubling with a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide. Allan deviation of the repetition rate of the frequency comb...
We study and explain the impact of the ambient temperature or pressure perturbations on the photonic microcavity stability. Our study proves that the ambient temperature (pressure) needs to be controlled within 2.7 mK (0.154 mPa) to achieve the thermodynamical noise limit stability for our resonator and we reach it in short-time scale.
A Kerr frequency comb oscillator operating at 1560 nm center wavelength and having 27.5 GHz repetition rate was created and stabilized to Rb87 D2 line. Allan deviation of the repetition rate on the order of 10−11 at 1s to 1000s integration time was demonstrated.
We report on progress in realization of packaged RF photonic oscillators based on Kerr optical frequency comb generated in ultra-high Q crystalline whispering gallery mode resonators. Various regimes of operation of the oscillators and possible ways of their stabilization are reviewed. Properties and specifications of a turn-key oscillator prototype created at OEwaves are discussed. New regimes for...
We report on the development of a frequency modulatable 795 nm semiconductor laser based on self-injection locking to a whispering gallery mode microresonator. The laser is characterized with residual amplitude modulation below −80 dB and frequency noise better than 300 Hz/Hz1/2 at offset frequencies ranging from 100 Hz to 10 MHz.
Kerr frequency comb generation in a MgF2 microresonator depends on the resonator temperature. This effect occurs as a consequence of change of local group velocity dispersion of the resonator spectrum resulting from linear interaction among resonator modes.
This paper presents the design and implementation of high frequency resonant converter based on the Class F/sub 2/ inverter for inductive power transfer. MHz frequency operation can allow for higher power density than conventional switching frequencies. The converter is based on the Class F/sub 2/ inverter, reducing the voltage stress across the switch compared to other resonant topologies. A prototype...
