This paper analyzed operation characteristics of 5L-ANPC converters under device open failure conditions and proposed fault tolerant control schemes for single and multiple device open failures. Simulation results validated the analysis and control schemes, which allow the converter to continue operating to provide balanced three-phase currents during fault tolerant operation.
