Ductile iron containing ∼3.5wt.% C and 2.1–4.2wt.% Si (2.1, 2.8 and 4.2wt.%) was studied. Three sets of specimens with differing Si contents were made into austempered ductile iron (ADI) and pearlite ductile iron (PDI) through heat treatment. These specimens were then eroded with Al 2 O 3 particles and SiO 2 particles of 275–295μm grit size to understand the relationship between...
The erosion behavior of ductile irons with four different matrices, namely ferrite, upper bainite, lower bainite, and martensite, were studied as a function of impact angle. The results indicate a good relationship exists between erosion rate and mechanical properties. The angle of maximum erosion rate is found to increases with hardness.
A ductile iron of ~3.5wt.% C and ~2.8wt.% Si was austempered at 420 o C for 0.5, 1, 2 and 3h. These upper bainitic austempered ductile iron (ADI) specimens were then eroded by Al 2 O 3 particles of ~275μm grit size under the average particle velocity of 73ms -1 . According to the experimental results, 0.5h austempered specimen, which contains largest amount of...
A356-series Al-Si-Mg alloys are subjected to SiO 2 sand erosion when they are used as the molding die in automatic molding to prepare sand mold for casting. In the current investigation, SiO 2 sand erosion of the as-cast and T6-treated A356.2 alloy was studied. To simulate the erosion during the sand-filling process in automatic molding, two test conditions of about 36 and 66 m s ...
