Laser phase noise degrades the bit-error-ratio (BER) performance after forward-error correction (FEC), so-called post-FEC BER. In order to suppress phase noise, we introduce iterative decoding between a decoder for carrier-phase estimation and an FEC decoder. The simulation results show that the post-FEC BER performance is improved by 0.8 dB by using the iterative decoder.
We experimentally evaluate performance of selective six-mode multiplexer based on mode selective couplers. The mode-group coupling is suppressed by −20dB, maintaining OSNR penalty of 3dB due to mode multiplexing even with use of 6×6 MIMO.
We experimentally evaluate the bit-error rate performance of six-mode-multiplexed DP-QAM signals in back-to-back configuration. In Nyquist WDM and 64QAM format cases, BERs of less than 2×10−2 for all modes are achieved.
A novel degenerate mode multiplexer/demultiplexer using Mach-Zehnder interferometer with an image inversion function is proposed and developed. Low-loss multiplexing/demultiplexing operation of degenerate modes of LP11ab, LP21ab and LP31ab is experimentally demonstrated respectively.
