Existing methodological strategies for the doping of nitrogen (N) atoms in carbon materials usually contain more than one species with indefinite N content, which made it difficult to study the role of each type of N atoms played duing the doping and severely restrict the wide application. Herein, we reported a developed synthetic strategy for preparing carbonous materials contained with specific...
This work demonstrates the conversion of graphene oxide into BCN hybrid nanosheets by reaction with boric acid and urea at 900°C, during which boron and nitrogen atoms are incorporated into the graphene atomic sheets. X-ray diffraction pattern and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal the existence of h-BN. High-resolution electron microscopy and Raman spectrum indicate the presence of graphene-like...
When a C-rich polycarbosilane (PCS) fiber is pyrolyzed in the presence of KOH, a porous carbon fiber was obtained after acid washing. During the process, silicon was almost completely eliminated and a large microporosity was formed. The porous carbon fibers have a surface area of 1100m 2 /g and an average pore size of 2.80nm. These materials are called “organic-carbide-derived carbons”.
A chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) technique was used to overcome most of the challenges involved in fabricating exceptionally-tough CNT/SiC composites. Nanotube pullout and sequential breaking and slippage of the walls of the CNTs during failure were consistently observed for all fractured CNT/SiC samples. These energy absorbing mechanisms result in the fracture strength of the CNT/SiC composites...
A novel structure of carbon nanonodules containing fewer than 10 layers graphene has grown on amorphous carbon nanofibers by carbonization-induced self-assembly. It is found that a successive processes containing pre-oxidation in air at 220°C and carbonization in a high vacuum (1×10 −4 Pa) at 750°C are necessary for the fabrication of the carbon nanonodules. Possible mechanism for the evolution...
Porous SiC y (core)/C (shell) composite fibres have been fabricated using a simple KOH controlled-activation of SiC x fibres, which were pyrolyzed from polycarbosilane-pitch blend fibres. Effects of activation conditions and pyrolysis temperatures were studied. There are distinctive interfaces observed on the cross-sections of the co-axial fibres, where Si content varies gradually...
Platelet graphite nanofibers have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The results show that the graphene sheets are stacked parallel to each other and are perpendicular to the fiber axis; the interlayer spacing is 0.34nm. A small fraction of carbon atoms are bonded...
Fluorocarbon films were deposited on silicon substrate by R.F. magnetron sputtering using a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) target. Structure of the deposited films was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Hardness, elastic modulus and scratch resistance were measured using a nanoindenter with scratch capability. –CF x (x=1,2,3) and C–C units were found in the deposited fluorocarbon...
