Use of surface PIN (SPIN) diodes to reconfigure a slot fed dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is demonstrated. A single SPIN diode is placed in the centre of the feeding slot to facilitate the ON-OFF switching mechanism, modulating the gain by ∼18dB.
Spectrofluorimetry is used as an optical assay to investigate whether exposure of bovine serum albumin (BSA) to electromagnetic fields (EMF) causes structural changes in the protein distinct from any caused by heating alone. Such changes would alter the fluorescence spectrum of the BSA, and could indicate a potential for EMF induced altered biological activity of proteins in-vivo. No directly EMF...
This article presents a rigorous method of moments (MoM) analysis of a radial monopole that is connected to a perfectly conducting (PEC) cylindrical ground plane which is covered by a dielectric cylindrical substrate. The convergence of the dyadic Green's function has been accelerated by employing the image extraction method. Input impedance and radiation pattern results are presented and compared...
The neuronal (ionic) current caused by nerve firing induces subtle and transient magnetic flux density changes that potentially modulate the MR signal over successive gradient echo planar image frames. Frequency spectra derived from Fourier transformation of experimental data down these time frames show evidence of a strobe stimulus localized to regions containing the optic nerve and visual cortex,...
Bovine serum albumin is exposed to a low frequency electric field and spectrofluorimetry then used as an assay for changes in protein structure. Any such changes occurring in analogous proteins may be biologically significant in-vivo. Oscillatory fluorescence variations synchronized with the electric field bursts are observed but the cause of these is unclear.
A conformal Archimedian spirals array is modelled over a perfectly conducting cylindrical surface using the method of moments. Mutual coupling, radiation patterns and axial ratio have been calculated. Results have been validated against simulations using a commercial software package.
A conformal Archimedian spiral antenna above a cylindrical PEC groundplane is efficiently modelled using a curved segment moment method incorporating closed form Green's functions to describe the cylinder. Spiral antenna input impedances agree well with controls and computation times are significantly reduced.
A conformal Archimedian spiral antenna above a cylindrical groundplane is modelled using a curved segment moment method incorporating closed form Green's functions to describe the cylinder for maximum computational efficiency. Asymptotic input impedances agree well with a planar geometry.
An efficient method of moments algorithm is described using curved segmentation to model printed eccentric spiral antennas, which is then run under a genetic algorithm optimisation routine to design antennas with specific performance attributes. The efficiency of the electromagnetic code keeps CPU times manageable throughout the many runs required in the optimisation procedure. Results are presented...
