We investigated the effect of water impurity in a CsLiB6O10 (CLBO) crystal on the ultraviolet (UV) properties of the bulk laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT). The water impurity was eliminated by heating the CLBO sample with dimensions of 5 times 5 times 10 mm3 at 150degC in ambient atmosphere and subsequently in dry atmosphere. The bulk LIDT of the sample after the heat treatment improved by about...
Crystallinity of CLBO could be drastically improved by solution-stirring method. They possessed high bulk and surface laser-induced damage thresholds, and the qualities were adequately uniform throughout the crystals. 40-W UV output was obtained by using these high-quality uniform crystals.
