We demonstrate a 60-channel wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) with 10-Gb/s bidirectional transmission. A single 32*32 AWGR is used at the remote node to achieve a total system capacity of 1.2 Tbit/s.
Combining subcarrier multiplexing and wavelength division multiplexing techniques, we demonstrate a 124-channel hybrid PON with 10-Gb/s downstream and 1.25-Gb/s upstream transmission. A single 32∗32 AWG is used to distribute the bidirectional wavelength channels for 124 users.
The capacity of today's top-end core routers is only about 1Tb/s. If the router capacity were to continue to grow at the same rate as the past 20 years, we would need 100Tb/s routers by 2012. The two major projects that aim to design plain 100Tb/s packet routers are LASOR and IRIS. In our project, we aim to design a multicast capable 100Tb/s packet and an integrated platform for optical packet switching...
We propose an optical labeling scheme whereby the optical label and payload are transmitted separately on two different fibers that carry bidirectional traffic. This eliminates the complex optical label and payload separation and combination processes which are usually required at the intermediate optical switching nodes. Another novel feature of our proposed scheme is the use of amplified spontaneous...
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel low-cost optical access network providing bidirectional data transmissions and a broadcast service simultaneously with a single wavelength. All these services are provided through the same fibre link.
We mathematically analyze and experimentally investigate the characteristics of subcarrier-modulated (SCM) light. Our investigation shows that the baseband data are also carried on the optical carrier after subcarrier modulation. This residual data introduce crosstalk when the optical carrier is separated from subcarriers and reused for uplink data modulation. The influence of the residual data carried...
