The present contribution reviews novel insights into block copolymer phase behavior and nanostructure formation in confined geometries. We focus on state-of-the-art experimental and theoretical progress in this area, with an emphasis on characterization methods and techniques that provide a quantitative framework for fundamental analysis. We discuss and compare basic system parameters that are readily...
We discuss recent developments in scanning probe microscopy aiming to combine ultra-high lateral resolution with the potential of “chemical sensitivity”. Particular attention is given to techniques beyond the well-established scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), which allow surface imaging with atomic resolution, however, do hardly allow chemical identification of...
We have used spectroscopic ellipsometry to determine the Flory-Huggins parameters in thin films of polystyrene, poly(2vinyl pyridine), and poly(tert butyl methacrylate) swollen in controlled atmosphere of various common solvents. From the experimental data the concentration dependent Flory-Huggins interaction parameters between the homopolymers and the different solvents are revealed. Similar experiments...
