A novel dual functional device combining optical filtering and amplification by taking advantage of excellent electrooptic property in the gain medium was designed and demonstrated in covering both C- and L-bands.
Using Ho3+ and Tm3+ codoped PLZT ceramic gain media, excellent upconversion was observed and investigated. A new model was proposed, leading ways towards upconversion-based laser and sensor development.
Over 108% single-pass net gains were achieved at wavelength of 1550 and 1500 nm both in highly transparent Er3+ doped and in Er3+ and Yb3+ codoped electro-optic lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) ceramics.
Using Nd3+ doped lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) ceramic gain media which possess excellent electro-optic effects and wide optical transmission window, ceramic lasers of revolutionary nature have been implemented without any extra foreign active components.
