In this paper, we propose a new adaptation approach for viewport-adaptive streaming of 360-degree videos over the Internet. The proposed approach is able to systematically decide quality levels of tiles according to user head movements and network conditions by taking into account not only prediction errors but also user head movements in each adaptation interval. Experimental results show that the...
Nowadays, 360-degree video has become an important component of virtual reality (VR) technology. Unfortunately, this state-of-the-art content type requires a huge bandwidth from a server to a client. In order to solve the bandwidth problem in streaming VR videos over HTTP/2, a dynamic adaptation method is crucial. In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive streaming method based on tiled streaming...
In this paper, we propose a client-based adaptation method for Adaptive Streaming over HTTP/2 leveraging the server push feature. A cost function that takes into account both the number of pushed segments and the playout buffer level is defined. Experiment results show that the proposed method can improve the tradeoff between the number of requests and buffer stability compared to existing solutions.
In this paper, we focus on the bitrate adaptation issue of HTTP live video streaming. We first present a systematic approach that enables the client to choose the best video quality when deciding video bitrate for next several segments. After that, based on the concept of JND (Just Noticeable Difference), an adaptation method is proposed to meet the tradeoff between the requirements of buffer stability...
Adaptive HTTP streaming has become a new trend to support adaptivity in video delivery. A HTTP streaming client needs to estimate exactly resource availability and resource demand. In this paper, we focus on the most important resource which is bandwidth. To this end, our proposed streaming approach consists of 1) throughput prediction and 2) content bitrate prediction. The experiments show that our...
