We implement a chromatic dispersion monitoring scheme that is based on four wave mixing (FWM) in a 2.1 cm long silicon waveguide. The average idler power produced by FWM in the waveguide depends on the peak power which is dependent on the pump pulse width after chromatic dispersion. Thus the average idler power can be measured to monitor accumulated residual dispersion in the pump. The average idler...
We investigate the performance of digital backpropagation in wavelength-division-multiplexed- (WDM) transmission systems using polarisation-division-multiplexed (PDM) differentially-encoded quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) and 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) for a range of symbol-rates. Digital backpropagation was found to be more effective for the 16QAM than QPSK format.
We investigate the dependence of nonlinear penalty on symbol-rate in polarisation-multiplexed coherent DQPSK WDM-transmission systems over an uncompensated SSMF link with a fixed spectral efficiency of 2 bit/s/Hz. The performance is found to be similar, irrespective of the symbol-rate.
We investigate the reduction in the duty-cycle for M-phase-shift-keyed transmission, demonstrating performance improvement in the range of 2-8 dB in nonlinear threshold (NLT) due to intrachannel-four wave mixing (IFWM) and nonlinear phase noise (NLPN).
