Content streaming is a mechanism used to distribute static geometry data to users of a virtual environment in real-time. Although most existing content streaming mechanisms have shown to meet their run-time performance requirements, they have an underlying constraint on the quality of 3D data that can be streamed. This restriction stems from the fact that most existing content streaming mechanisms...
This paper proposes a novel path-assisted dead reckoning algorithm for distributed virtual environments (DVEs). Unlike traditional dead reckoning algorithms that perform extrapolations based solely on kinematic models, the new algorithm takes environmental factors and human behaviours into account. Its design is based on an assumption that human-controlled entities tend to follow similar paths in...
In this paper, a miniaturised Butler matrix using 3-dB cross-slotted patch hybrids is presented. By asymmetrically loading the inductive cross-slotted slots on four patches, compact patch hybrid couplers can be achieved. After properly installing two quarter-wavelength short-circuited stubs as phase shifters, the overall size of the resultant Butler matrix is largely reduced. In comparison with traditional...
This paper describes experimental demonstration of 50GHz ROADM tolerance for a realtime, single-carrier, 127-Gb/s coherent PM-QPSK system. 10 WSSs are cascaded over 1000km NDSF and <;0.5dB OSNR penalty is measured for the worst case. Cascading limit is also predicted.
We demonstrate experimentally penalty-free transmission of 127-Gb/s coherent PM-QPSK signals through 10 cascaded 50-GHz commercial WSS over 1500-km SMF. Simulation results show that more than 40 cascades of such 50-GHz liquid-crystal based WSS is feasible.
We review recent trends and progress in the area of 100 G module and subsystem development for long haul DWDM applications and explore how the 100 G market will likely differ from that experienced at 40 G.
We propose a system that allows users to engage in collaborative sessions through a variety of communication tools running simultaneously. In this paper we use description logic to model a broad range of features of a proposed session and we validate it before it is invoked, by checking for consistency with constraints arising from three main areas. We ensure (a) that it will not exceed the capacity...
With the increased cost, time and potential risk or hassle involved in traveling, videoconferencing has become a popular alternative for meeting people from geographically distributed locations. Videoconferencing tools have also become widely available, and videoconferencing technologies have improved substantially over time. This paper provides a basic technical implementation guide for those involved...
We demonstrate the high-speed and high-power performance of separated-transport-recombination photodiodes (STR-PDs) under continuous-wave operation. As compared to the control without recombination center, STR-PD has superior bandwidth performance under higher output photocurrent without sacrificing responsivity seriously.
