In this paper, we propose and investigate a ring-based wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) providing both Rayleigh backscattering (RB) noise mitigation and fiber-fault protection. The proposed ring-based WDM-PON has a dual-ring architecture to protect and restore any fiber fault. Besides, the ring architecture also can mitigate the RB beat noise, since the RB and the...
Using a 7.5 ??m wide InP Micro-Disc-Laser, with a very low ~100 ??A threshold current, heterogeneously integrated on top of Silicon on Insulator substrate, all optical NRZ wavelength conversion at speeds up to 20 Gb/s is demonstrated.
We present the first BER results for wavelength conversion at 2.5Gb/s for an InP membrane Micro-Disc-Laser bonded on SOI substrate. Measured BER supports error-free operation when FEC is used. Operation at 10GB/s is also demonstrated.
Adaptive modulation can approach the channel capacity by adapting the number of bits per transmission symbol to channel quality variations. This paper proposes a fixed threshold adaptive modulation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) used in power line communications. This adaptive OFDM is combined with an adaptive power control scheme in order to combat with multipath fading...
We have quantified the system margin afforded by polarization scrambling with a direct measurement of the errored events from a noise loaded FEC decoder. We have demonstrated a margin enhancement of 1.2 dB after 8,856 km transmission.
