A priori discrimination of high mortality risk amongst congestive heart failure patients constitutes an important clinical stake in cardiology and involves challenging analyses of the temporal dynamics of heart rate variability (HRV). The present contribution investigates the potential of a new multifractal formalism, constructed on wavelet p-leader coefficients, to help discrimination between survivor...
We report exciton-polariton laser operation under electrical pumping. The hybrid light-matter nature of this lasing system is probed by measuring the exciton-polariton Zeeman-splitting, which clearly reveals that this laser remains in the strong coupling regime.
Exciton-polaritons are hybrid light-matter quasiparticles. They are composite and interacting bosons which can condense dynamically in a single-particle ground state via stimulated scattering. The formation of exciton-polaritons under electrical pumping has been demonstrated in quasi two dimensional systems [1–3]. In this work, we discuss the non-linear polariton emission caused by stimulated scattering...
With a cylindrical discharge type fusion device that generates fast neutron design of various combinations of reflectors, moderators and shield materials were studied for, the neutron beam with desired energy spectrum. Optimized reflector design and comparison of their materials are discussed by both experimental and numerical studies.
Biomedical papers contain large amounts of figures. Since they provide important information about research outcomes, mining techniques targeting them have attracted a great deal of attention. Our final goal is to develop a figure finding system, FigFinder, to retrieve figures relevant to a userpsilas query by mining information contained in figures, their legends, and the main text in an integrative...
This paper compares the performance of a linear pulse motor (LPM) and a linear electromagnetic solenoid (LES) when used in a totally artificial heart. Our experiences with LPM-driven total artifilcial hearts have shown that the following problems need to be resolved: 1) long-term reliability of the linear bearings; 2) low thrust of the LPM. These problems concerning the LPM may be solved by using...
