A 1.6 Tbit/s/ch single-carrier transmission of 32 QAM coherent pulses over 150 km was demonstrated using an RZ-CW conversion technique and frequency-domain equalization (FDE). A large improvement in the bit-error-rate characteristics was achieved with FDE.
A new polarization-reversal technique was demonstrated where high voltage through liquid electrodes was applied to a 3-inch LiNbO/sub 3/ wafer grooved by sandblast machining. Domain wall movement was automatically terminated at groove boundary without feedback system.
A novel single drive Z-cut Ti-diffused LiNbO/sub 3/ modulator with a small chirp parameter less than 0.02 was demonstrated using polarization reversal and branch electrode. The modulator showed preferable 10 Gb/s eye-opening and bias stability.
