We developed a facile route for separating and detecting phenethylamine from plasma using photonic crystal biosilica, which serves as a new lab-on-chip platform combining surface-enhanced Raman scattering sensing and thin layer chromatography.
Hyperbolic metamaterials use the concept of controlling the propagative modes through the engineering of the dispersion relation, and are considered highly promising to reach different meta-properties. Spectroscopic Mueller Matrix Ellipsometry with variable angle of incidence and full azimuthal rotation of the sample is a powerful optical technique to characterize both anisotropic and bi-anisotropic...
We experimentally demonstrate a new type of micro-fluid channel design with crossing optical waveguides that not only block any gaps in the microfluidic channels in one fabrication step but also enable nearly lossless optical propagation in the primary waveguides on a chip. Such designs are critical for all sensing applications where the analyte must be flowed over the sensor.
We investigate bio-inspired plasmonic sensors based on the interactions between Ag nanoparticles and diatom biosilica. The strongly coupled optical resonances lead to 2× higher optical extinction and 4∼6× improvement of sensitivity in surface-enhanced Raman scattering.
Nowadays, nanosensor arrays have a great potential in industrial process control, automatic identification or medical applications. Regarding the medical field, the possibility to detect characteristic biomarkers or environmental toxins in living spaces in a transcutaneous, non-invasive and user-friendly way will open new markets. Furthermore, by combination of an array of miniaturized spectroscopic...
A high-speed photoacoustic tomography (PAT) data acquisition system has been developed using a commercial ultrasound (US) unit. Since the US unit supports simultaneous signal acquisition from 64 parallel receive channels, PAT data from a 64-element US array aperture can be acquired using a single laser firing. This arrangement enables an object to be scanned in both US imaging and PAT modes using...
An 8-user, 10.7Gbps/user, asynchronous code-shift-keying OCDMA system was demonstrated in the experiment with BER≪ 10-9, without using FEC and optical thresholding. This scheme uses the multi-port encoder/decoder in a novel configuration to process multi-dimensional optical codes.
