The discovery of passive mode-locking via saturable absorbers [1] has led to optical femto-second pulses with applications ranging from eye-surgery to the analysis of chemical reactions on ultra-short timescales. In the frequency domain a train of such optical pulses corresponds to a frequency comb (equidistant optical laser lines spaced by the pulse repetition rate) [2], which finds use in precision...
Crystal quality of a new nonlinear organic material BNA was much enhanced successfully. A novel hybrid THz-wave source with extremely ultrawideband frequency tunability was proposed using new BNA and established DAST crystals.
A monochromatic THz radiation source with broadband tunability utilizing N-benzyl-2-methyl-4-nitroaniline (BNA) crystal has been developed. BNA quality was improved by applying solution growth method instead of melt method. BNA-THz source using difference frequency generation was further optimized.
A high-sensitivity, fast-response THz-wave detection using an organic nonlinear optical crystal of DAST has been demonstrated. In this report, the optimum performance of THz-wave detection was investigated in parameters such as the thickness of DAST, pump wavelength, and pumping intensity. Consequently, a higher sensitivity was obtained.
We investigate nonlinear frequency conversion in an ultra high-Q CaF2 whispering gallery mode resonator with finesse exceeding 1 million. Raman lasing and four-wave mixing in the intermediate infrared spectral region is reported.
We demonstrate a polarization-insensitive single-pumped optical-parametric-amplifier by depolarizing the pump using a polarization controller followed by a piece of polarization-maintaining fiber with /spl sim/ 100-ps DGD. The polarization-dependent-gain is reduced from 8 dB to <1 dB.
