We present an ab initio study of UF6 adsorption and vibrations on graphene derivatives: pristine single and double layer graphene, as well as (single layer) hydrogenated and fluorinated graphene. As the substrate results in a range of bonding strengths, from chemisorption to physisorption, both GGA density functional theory (DFT) and dispersion-corrected DFT (DFT-D) are used. The lowest adsorption...
Super-aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which had been produced in large-scale, were oxidized by H 2 O 2 and HNO 3 . The surface defects and oxygen-containing functional groups introduced during the oxidizing process were characterized by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The surface modification of MWCNTs improved the electrochemical properties...
HfC-decorated carbon nanotube (CNT) yarns have been fabricated by pre-coating pure CNT yarns with Hf and in situ current heating in vacuum. HfC nanocrystals were formed at about 1600K through reaction of the CNTs with Hf. The fabricated HfC-CNT yarns had a work function of 3.9eV, lower than that of pure CNT yarns. For field-emission applications, HfC-CNT sharp tips made up of HfC nanorods were obtained...
