We suggest and demonstrate experimentally AlGaAs nanoantennas for efficient second-harmonic generation (SHG). We show that the SHG directionality and efficiency are defined by either electric or magnetic multipoles and controlled by incident polarization and design.
Broadband photoconductive terahertz detectors based on undoped InP single nanowires were demonstrated. By further design and growth of an axial n+-i-n+ structure to reduce the contact resistance, highly-sensitive n+-i-n+ InP single-nanowire terahertz detectors were achieved.
We report the growth of GaAs/AlGaAs core-shell nanowire ensembles grown on p- and n-doped GaAs substrate respectively and the fabrication of these nanowire photodetectors. The I-V characteristics and spectral response of both detectors were investigated by comparison.
We report on individual-InAs nanowire optoelectronic devices which, through surface-state engineering, can be tailored to exhibit either negative- or positive-photoconductivity, opening pathways towards engineering semiconductor nanowires for novel optical-memory and photodetector applications.
We exploit the photoconductivity of semiconductor nanowires to achieve ultrafast broad-bandwidth modulation of THz pulses. A modulation depth of −8 dB was exhibited by a polarizer consisting of 14 layers of nanowires encapsulated in polymer.
Brain Computer Interface (BCI) has recently gained much popularity due to plethora of its applications. In this paper, we propose a novel system architecture to utilize brain signals for controlling Internet of Things enabled environments. The proposed architecture aids in translating brain signals to commands that interact with or control the environment using IoT actuation networks thus executing...
He VMware ESXi hypervisor attracts a wide range of customers and is deployed in domains ranging from desktop computing to server computing. While the software systems are increasingly moving towards consolidation, hardware has already transitioned into multi-socket Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA)-based systems. The marriage of increasing consolidation and the multi-socket based systems warrants low-overhead,...
Semiconductor nanowires and their potential applications will be discussed. How these nanowires can be synthesized and how the shape, size and composition of the nanowires influence their structural and optical properties will be presented. I will present results on lasers, THz detectors and solar cells.
Nanowires show unique promise for a multitude of optoelectronic devices, ranging from solar cells to terahertz (THz) photonic devices. Here, we discuss how THz spectroscopy is guiding the development of such nanowire-based devices. As an example, we focus on developing nanowire-based THz polarization modulators.
Increasing data set sizes motivate for a shift of focus from computation-centric systems to data-centric systems, where data movement is treated as a first-class optimization metric. An example of this emerging paradigm is in-situ computing in largescale computing systems. Observing that data movement costs are increasing at an exponential rate even at a node level (as a node itself is fast-becoming...
Employing an on-chip network in a manycore system (to improve scalability) makes the latencies of data accesses issued by a core non-uniform, which significant impact application performance. This paper presents a compiler strategy which involves exposing architecture information to the compiler to enable optimized computation-to-core mapping. Our scheme takes into account the relative positions of...
Authors can be differentiated by their styles of writing. In this paper, we propose features which attempt to classify authors based on their writing styles. The features can be usage of parts of speech, punctuation marks, word lengths, sentence lengths, number of unique words used, etc. This concept is used in many fields like email classification, fraud detection, etc. We propose a module to extract...
Word sense disambiguation is the process of identifying existence of polysemous words in the text and disambiguating the appropriate sense satisfying the given context in Kannada language. The proposed methodology uses the synonyms of the target word and its surrounding words' gloss in combination with part of speech tagging to determine the overlap between the senses of the polysemous word or the...
Abstractive multi-document summarization aims at generating new sentences whose elements originate from different source sentence. It can be achieved via phrase selection and merging approach which aims at constructing new sentences by exploring syntactic units such as fine-grained noun and verb phrase. It can be also achieved by extracting semantic information from source sentence which uses the...
Organizing and rearranging library books in appropriate order requires attention and care of librarians. The book indexing and organizing algorithm will detect misplaced library books and suggest a proper position to the user. It can be implemented in a smartphone or a server or an autonomous embedded system. It first segments the captured image to find proper tag area in the book. Then crops that...
The huge, ever growing demand for electrical energy has hitherto been primarily met through the combustion of fossil fuels, and conversion of heat liberated therefrom. The relentless exploitation of these resources has raised questions regarding emission of green house gases, particulate pollution, and their harmful effects on environment. It also brings into focus the sustainability of generation...
In today's scenario, efficient usage of resources in applications like data communications plays an important role. This paper presents a data transfer mechanism through visible light communication (VLC). The VLC technology has become an alternative solution for next generation communication technology by offering low cost and unregulated bandwidth. In this work, for the transmission of multiple data...
We fabricate AlGaAs nanoantennas on a glass substrate and demonstrate the highest nonlinear conversion efficiency of 10−4 with the capability for shaping the radiation patterns and polarization of the second harmonic emission in both forward and backward directions. We also decode dynamic multipolar contributions to the second harmonic generation within such nanoantennas.
As crowdsourcing has been dramatically investigated and utilized to address problems in the real world, it is essential and important to think about performance optimization. Analogous to computer systems with CPUs, treating each worker as a HPU (Human Processing Unit [1]) and studying the performance optimization on top of HPUs are interesting perspectives to resolve crowdsourcing issues. However,...
Due to the coarse granularity of data accesses and the heavy use of latches, indices in the B-tree family are not efficient for in-memory databases, especially in the context of today's multi-core architecture. In this paper, we study the parallelizability of skip lists for the parallel and concurrent environment, and present PSL, a Parallel in-memory Skip List that lends itself naturally to the multi-core...
