A novel, convenient acidification approach has been applied to the preparation of selenium nanowires with a typical diameter of 50 nm and a typical length of 5 μm in a polymer buffer system at room temperature. The whole time of nucleation and growth of the nanowires was cut short remarkably to 3 h without any other auxiliary means under ambient conditions.
