Effects of membrane noise (channel noise) on the conduction of action potentials at a branching point on an axon are studied on the basis of a stochastic version of the Hodgkin-Huxley cable model. Computer simulation shows that the channel noise causes random differential conduction into daughter branches on an axon of small radius (≃ 0.1 µm).
