In the conventional variable speed drive, the dc-link including the dc-choke and electrolytic capacitor is bulky with limited lifetime. The slim dc-link drive is thus proposed for the lower cost and longer lifetime by using the film capacitor to replace the electrolytic capacitor and dc-choke. However, such drive system suffers from the potential instability issue, due to the negative incremental...
The harmonic performance of the slim dc-link adjustable speed drives has shown good performance in some studies but poor in some others. The contradiction indicates that a feasible theoretical analysis is still lacking to characterize the harmonic distortion for the slim dc-link drive. Considering the shortcomings of the present harmonic analysis methods, such as the time-domain simulation, or the...
Small DC-link drive system, built with film capacitor in the DC link, may have the advantages of longer lifetime and the possibility to achieve a more compact design of capacitor bank at medium and high power rates. However, it exhibits instability problem, especially when it is fed by a soft grid. Therefore, active damping techniques are usually needed in order to stabilize the system. This paper...
A method based on support vector machine (SVM) is presented to calculate the characteristic impedance of transverse electromagnetic (TEM) horn antennas. The method can be used for computer aided design (CAD) of TEM horn antennas. The results obtained from the SVM model are in very good agreement with the analytical and numerical result.
