A distributed temperature sensor (DTS) utilizing two mode fibers as the sensing fiber is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for long range temperature measurement. Compared with the few mode fiber (FMF) based DTS reported previously, the temperature resolution has been improved to be 1.7 °C at 10 km and 6.0 °C at 20 km, respectively.
We demonstrate a distributed temperature sensor based on quasi-single mode (QSM) Raman scattering in few mode fibers (FMFs). The FMF allows much larger input pump power before the initiate of stimulated Raman scattering compared with the standard single mode fiber (SSMF) and mitigates the detrimental differential mode group delay (DMGD) existing in the conventional multimode fiber (MMF) based Raman...
This paper presents a novel VLSI hardware architecture for the real-time high-throughput implementation of the HEVC deblocking filtering. Based on the proposed implementation-friendly boundary judgment method, a dedicated multi-parallel architecture composed of four parallel filtering cores, parallel luma/chroma filtering and parallel vertical/horizontal edges filtering is presented. Experimental...
We theoretically and experimentally investigate the performance of an ultrasound detection system based on a fiber ring laser (FRL) whose cavity includes a pair of fiber Bragg gratings. The ultrasonic detection is achieved by the FRL power variations in response to the ultrasound-induced cold-cavity loss modulation of the FRL. The effects of key FRL parameters, including pump power, laser cold-cavity...
Under the background of the Age of Big Ocean, much emphasis have been paid on the marine development and utilization of the ocean. So the Underwater Wireless Networks (UWSNs) have been attracted much attention in the industrial community and the academic community. In this paper, we compare the performance of three localization algorithms: the DV-Hop, the 3D-RPE and the LSL which are suitable for...
Using numerical simulations, we investigated the responses of the -phase-shifted fiber Bragg gratings impinged by pressure ultrasonic waves. The effect of the grating length, grating refractive index modification depth, and ultrasonic frequency on the wavelength sensitivity and intensity sensitivity of the ultrasonic sensor for ultrasonic waves of different wavelengths...
The relation of beat frequency, sweep rate, optical frequency modulation excursion and length of fiber under test (FUT) based on tunable semiconductor laser is studied. Experimental results show that the frequency of beat signal will increase when the length of the FUT, optical frequency modulation excursion or sweep rate increases.

The effect of adsorption-desorption on the characteristic of the doubly clamped nano beam is analyzed theoretically by considering the mass variation resulted from adsorption. The frequency shift is obtained and compared with the effect of air damping. It is shown that the frequency shift which is induced by the effect of adsorption is about 1%, much higher than the effect of air damping. The relationships...
