We present a novel large-area photoconductive terahertz emitter based on a 2D plasmonic nano-antenna array and compatible with telecommunication optical wavelengths. We experimentally demonstrate a record-high terahertz radiation power level of 300μW over 0.1–5 THz frequency range.
We demonstrate that incorporating plasmonic nanoantennas in large-area photoconductive sources enables record-high terahertz radiation powers as high as 3.8 mW over 0.1–5 THz and an order-of-magnitude higher optical-to-terahertz conversion efficiencies compared to conventional designs.
