Even though the concept of Demand Response (DR) is not really widespread across Romania yet, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN) is currently implementing a pilot project in its own buildings within the Horizon 2020 Project named DR-BoB (project no. 696114/2016). The main purpose of this pilot project is to develop an energy monitoring and targeting system, along with a DR program in load...
This paper treats a general method of computing electrical image charges, in case of conductive closed surfaces with meridian plane symmetry. According to this method, which is based on field synthesis, the ill-conditioned system is solved using the binomial coefficient method. Validation of the method was done using a simple physical model that allows for direct verification of synthesis results.
Urban Energy Management approach of Cluj-Napoca city municipality is presented in close connection with the public utilities companies, energy action plans and mainly the impact on energy use on public building in an original approach between the City Municipality — Technical University and an NGO founded by the private energy companies.
The paper performs a load analysis in a Romanian substation. To respond to the increasing energy demand, consumption relocation and to reduce internal losses the substation has been recently retrofitted replacing old IO type circuit breakers with new gas insulated SF6 switchgear. The paper performs numerical analysis of the internal substation power flow and power losses for different working scenarios.
In this paper, field synthesis is applied to find the image charges on the symmetry axis of a conductive cylinder. The results, obtained using the binomial coefficient method for the calculation of normal pseudo-solitude and using the method of regularization of the degenerate systems are compared. The results are used to compute capacity of a cylinder.
Through EU programs were developed a series of training schemes for operators involved in nZEB (near Zero Energy Buildings). These energy efficiency, architecture and environmental courses are focused on providing electrical, civil, installation, mechanical engineers, architects and other professionals, a whole range of knowledge around energy efficiency in the home relating to building systems. This...
The paper describes the implementation in ORCAD of equivalent circuits, used to model an artificially created frequency response function. The function is implemented and graphically represented in Matlab. Next, we compute the input admittance/impedance of the two proposed equivalent circuits (that include controlled sources), and compare it to the initial function. Finally, we conclude that this...
The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca through the DR-BoB Horizon 2020 European Project no. 696114/2016 is currently implementing a pilot demonstration project in the University buildings for energy monitoring and targeting along with a Demand Response (DR) program in load curve control. The DR hardware will consist in an energy and power metering system that will be functional before February 2017...
In order to respond to the increasing energy demand, consumption relocation and renewable energy integration into the grid, the Romanian power distribution substation have to be retrofitted. Load flow and short-circuit analysis are carried out on a newly retrofitted substation form the northern part of Romania. Obtained numerical simulation result were used for the optimal design and proper parametrization...
An artificial intelligence (AI) based approach has been applied in order to investigate the electromagnetic interference problems between high voltage overhead power lines (HV OPL) and nearby underground metallic pipelines (MP). The implemented artificial neural network (ANN) solution evaluates the inductive coupling matrix describing the OPL-MP electromagnetic interference problem in case of different...
Underground or above ground metallic pipeline placed in the vicinity of high voltage transmission lines are exposed to AC electromagnetic interference effects. Therefore, at design stage one should determine the proper pipeline right-of-way in order to minimize the level of induced AC current and voltages due to electromagnetic coupling effects, and in the same time to reduce construction costs. A...
One of the most important steps in the design of a new metallic gas pipeline, which will have to share the same distribution corridor with an existing high voltage overhead power line, is to determine the proper right-of-way in order to reduce construction cost and to minimize the level of A.C. currents and voltages induced in the pipeline due to inductive, conductive and capacitive couplings. Therefore,...
The image charges for a given charge distribution in the presence of two orthogonally conducting spheres is found with a pure geometrical method. The paper starts with an original solution of the classical problem of image charges for an electric point charge in a presence of a conducting sphere. The result is applied for the two orthogonally conducting spheres in all the possible situations: spheres...
Electromagnetic interferences between an existing gas pipeline and a newly designed high voltage power line sharing the same right-of-way, are evaluated. Induced voltages are computed for different steady state power line operating conditions, using dedicated professional software. To increase results accuracy, soil resistivity measurements were made along distribution corridor length and the appropriate...
The paper studies the induced electromagnetic perturbation in telecommunication cables placed nearby electrical cables due to high value fault currents produced by lightning strokes. A Fourier series decomposition by harmonic analysis of the lightning fault current has been done. For each harmonic component the produced electromagnetic field and the corresponding induced current density distribution...
Unexpected faults occurring in certain conditions on renewable energy sources connected to the power grid may result in severe damages, if capacitive load exists and consequently inductive power factor correction is applied with shunt coils. The paper presents some investigations on a case study.
The electromagnetic interference between high voltage power lines and nearby metallic structures has presented an important research subject over the last decades. The current paper investigates conductors sag influence on the proper evaluation of the inductive coupling between high voltage overhead power lines and nearby metallic structures, emphasizing on underground pipelines. A piecewise hybrid...
Electromagnetic interferences between an existing high voltage power line and a gas stream network sharing the same right-of-way are evaluated. Induced voltages are determined for different steady state power line operating conditions, using professional software. To increase results accuracy, soil resistivity measurements were made along the distribution corridor and the appropriate equivalent soil...
The paper studies the electromagnetic interference problem between an existing high voltage power line and a newly designed underground pipeline. Induced currents and voltages are evaluated for different steady state operating conditions of the power line. Obtained induced AC currents and voltages are compared to international regulation limits to identify potentially hazardous zones on pipeline....
The electromagnetic interference problem between an existing high voltage power line and a newly designed underground gas pipeline is analysed. The paper investigates soil resistivity and its influence on induced voltages. A new approach using a vertically layered soil structure, along the power line — pipeline common distribution corridor is proposed. To determine the appropriate horizontal and vertical...
