In this paper, 40 Gbaud transmission of single polarization (SP) and Polarization-Multiplexed (PM), RZ-DQPSK and RZ-D8PSK signals is analyzed numerically. The impact of nonlinear crosstalk arising from the presence of neighbouring intensity-modulated channels is analyzed in terms of required OSNR for the BER of 10-3 versus launch power.
Worldwide, higher-order modulation formats are intensively investigated to further increase spectral efficiency for building next generation optical transport networks. Coherent receivers and digital electronic equalizers are hereby discussed as the key enablers for applying very high spectral efficient wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signals in future optical backbone networks. We review current...
In this paper we review current and emerging bandwidth-intensive services, and we argument for the fact that future services will lead to strong symmetry requirements on optical fibre access networks. The argumentations are supported by traffic measurements as well as behavioural and market trends.
