A high-power ceramic Nd/sup 3+/:Y/sub 3/Al/sub 5/O/sup 12/ laser was developed. 110 W output at 1064 nm was obtained with a slope efficiency of 41%. The laser performance was found to compare favorably with that of single crystal Nd:YAG.
We succeeded in fabricating Yb/sup 3+/-doped YAG, Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and Sc/sub 2/O/sub 3/ ceramics. Yb/sup 3+/:YAG ceramic laser was developed, and output power of 345 mW was obtained absorbed power of 2.4 W, lasing at 1030 nm.
