By introducing side-absorbers to metal-metal waveguides of broadband terahertz quantum cascade lasers, we are able to control and completely suppress higher-order lateral waveguide modes. The coupling of broadband Terahertz pulses into metal-metal terahertz quantum cascade lasers is presented. A characterization of Terahertz transient generation on the subwavelength quantum cascade laser facet is investigated. The coupling inbetween two separate cavities is studied and modulation experiments were performed.
The generation of terahertz radiation within subwavelength waveguides is studied in time- and frequency-domain. Such waveguide emitters enable the efficient launching of terahertz waves within compact terahertz optical systems.
