A wide-band transmission line is proposed using a PCF and DSF. The available bandwidth is quadrupled, and 40 Gbit/s DWDM signals have been transmitted over 46 km using the 1310 and 1550 nm bands simultaneously.
This paper describes the applicability of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) as a dispersion-compensating/managing medium for conventional dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF). We experimentally confirm the dispersion compensation performance of the PCF in the 1310-nm wavelength region. A 40-Gb/s transmission over a 7.6-km-long DSF is demonstrated using the dispersion-compensating PCF. We also propose a dispersion-managed...
