High temperature piezoelectric materials serving at harsh environment without failure are desired for structural health monitoring and/or non destructive evaluation of the modern aerospace structures at elevated temperatures (above 600°C). In this report, different high temperature piezoelectric crystals, including the langasite (LGS) type crystals and GaPO4 in trigonal system, melilite type and fresnoite...
In this report, the dielectric and hydrostatic piezoelectric properties of the monoclinic bismuth triborate crystals (BiB3O6, BIBO) were investigated at ambient temperature for potential hydrophone application. The pressure dependence of the hydrostatic charge and voltage coefficients dielectric properties (dh and gh), and hydrostatic figure of merit (FOM) dh×gh, were also studied. Results indicated...
The bismuth triborate crystals BiB3O6 (BIBO) are multifunctional crystal materials with noncentrosymetric characteristics. In this paper, single crystal growth of BIBO crystals by using the top seeded solution method in a short period (within one month) was reported and the determination of the dielectric, elastic and piezoelectric constants were discussed for potential piezoelectric applications...
Structural ordered langasite-type piezoelectric crystal Ca3Ta G a 3Si2O14(CTGS) possess excellent high temperature piezoelectric properties. In this work, large size(25mm in diameter and 80mm in length)CTGS single crystalswere grown by using the vertical Bridgman method. High resolution X-ray diffraction technique was applied to characterize the crystal quality, where the as-grown CTGS crystals were...
In this report, the bismuth triborate piezoelectric crystals,α-BiB3O6(BIBO), were investigated for potential sensor applications. The dielectric, piezoelectric and electromechanical properties were evaluated by using the impedance method, where the largest piezoelectric charge coefficients were found for d22, being on the order of 40.0pC/N, with corresponding piezoelectric voltage coefficients g22...
New rare-earth oxyborate crystals TmCOB were grown by using the Czochralski method. The piezoelectric coefficients for TmCOB were determined to be on the order of d11=1.7, d12=3.8, d13=-4.2, d15=-0.92, d24=4.9, d26=7.8, d31=-0.75, d32=-2.4, d33=2.2 and d35=-5.2 pC/N. The temperature dependence of electro-elastic propertieswereinvestigated from 20 to 900°C, where the temperature coefficients of the...
A diode-pumped electro-optical (E-O) Q-switched 1063 nm Nd:GdVO4 laser was present. At the repetition rate of 100 kHz, the maximum average output power of 7.9 W was achieved at an incident pump power of 24.3 W, corresponding to an optical conversion efficiency of 32.5% and a slope efficiency of 38.5%, respectively. Furthermore, a minimum pulse width of 20.2 ns was also obtained at 100 kHz. To the...
Power scaling of end-pumped Nd:GdVO4 laser was realized by directly pumping and grown-together crystal. A maximum CW output power of 46.0W with M2 <; 1.1 was obtained. Effective A-O Q-switch operations were also reported.
Grown-together Nd:GdVO4/GdVO4 composite crystals were presented and end-pumped by diode-laser operating at 912 nm. The maximum output power of 8.15 W was obtained, with optical conversion efficiency of 29.1% and slope efficiency of 44.2%.
We detail the comparison on laser performance of A-O Q-switching Nd:GdVO4 and Nd:YVO4 lasers operated at 1.06 mum. The results reveal that Nd:YVO4 crystal, compared with Nd:GdVO4 crystal, is a more favorable gain medium when higher repetition rates and shorter pulse width are desired, owning to its larger stimulated emission cross-section.
