The ultrafast wireless information transmission method using sliced spectral continuum in the THz frequency range, formed by a pair of THz pulses, is presented. The sliced spectral continuum contained 31 spectral lines with 23 GHz spacing in the range from 0.04 to 0.75 THz transmitted via 2 meters of free-space by common THz time-domain spectrometer. Nanoscale polycrystalline CdSxSex−1 material proposed...
When my children asked me why I dedicated more than 25 years on THz wave related research and development, I replied that my choices were limited during the early 80s'. However, when I think back and review the development of broadband THz wave science and technology, I am delighted and very grateful for having had the opportunity, together with many colleagues, students, scientists, engineers, and...
A W-band reflective gyrotron backward wave oscillator (Gyro-BWO) is fabricated to systematically study the physics of competition between backward wave and forward wave. Two cavities, namely a single cavity and complex cavity, will be tested. Theoretical investigation indicates that the competition in a complex cavity is much improved and is capable of generating much stronger efficient radiation.
High frequency broadband lateral-field-excited (LFE) ultrasonic transducers were fabricated using inversion layer lithium niobate (LiNbO3) single crystal plate. The transducer developed for this study used an X-cut LiNbO3 thin plate with an active element thickness of 152µm relative to the designed center frequency of 33MHz. 28% inversion layer thickness ratio was obtained by grinding the half-thickness...
By “seeing” the fluorescence or “hearing” the sound emitted by plasma, coherent detection of broadband THz waves by laser-induced plasma at standoff distance is feasible. We will report these recent developments in THz wave sensing with air-plasma photonics.
We used a commercial neon lamp to detect THz waves (0.1, 0.2, 0.37 THz), IR (800 nm) and UV light (200 ~ 400 nm). The amplified responsivities at 0.1 THz, 0.2 THz, and 0.37 THz are 150 V/W, 57.5 V/W and 19.3 V/W, respectively.
