To help with long range coverage, minimal interference, and reduced energy requirements, recent studies have incorporated directional antenna arrays in wireless communication networks. In this letter, a broadband, dual polarization, and very narrow beam ( ) antenna array system based on the Long Slot Antenna (LSA) array technology has been developed, prototyped and tested. The complex...
To help with long range coverage, minimal interference, and reduced energy requirements, recently there have been growing interest in incorporating directional antenna arrays in wireless communication networks. In this paper, we describe the challenges and opportunities in developing directional wireless communication networks and present innovative options that could facilitate this development,...
In this paper, a dual-polarized long slot array antenna is developed for directional networking. The dual-polarization is achieved with 2-D slot array. Additional layer of resistively terminated elements are add to the edge of the antenna to minimize the edge effect. The antenna operating frequency is 2–6 GHz with 70° beamwidth and 6–10 dB gain.
A new L-band long slot antenna array design is described. Besides the use of long slot array to provide dual polarization radiation pattern in the 1–2 GHz band, the antenna is integrated with a metamaterial ground plane to provide compact design and improved gains. Simulation results of S-parameters and radiation patterns will be presented and the design trade-off will be discussed in details.
Previously developed MATLAB code for designing planar (2D) metamaterial broadband ground planes is extended to design volumetric (3D) metamaterial structures. A 3D ground plane designed to operate as an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) in the 225–450 MHz frequency range is presented. Its performance when used as the ground plane of the planar long slot array (PLSA) antenna and cylindrical long...
In this letter, we investigate the impact of fading correlation on symbol error rate (SER) performance of M-ray phase shift keying (MPSK) with maximal ratio combining (MRC) and present a comparison between the SER performance of a uniform circular array (UCA) and a uniform linear array (ULA). The performance evaluation uses the known expression for the SER of MPSK, then averages it over the density...
In this paper, we investigate the spatial fading correlation and symbol error rate (SER) performance of M-ray phase shift keying (MPSK) with maximal ratio combining (MRC) for a circular antenna array for two types of angle of arrival (AOA) energy distributions: a uniform AOA energy distribution and a Gaussian AOA energy distribution. The spatial fading correlation and SER performance of a circular...
Spatial fading correlation is one of the impairments practical multiple antenna array have to cope with. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of fading correlation on symbol error rate (SER) performance of MPSK with maximal ratio combining (MRC) is investigated for uniform circular antenna array (UCA). The performance evaluation uses the known expression for the SER of M-ary PSK in additive white...
