C58 fullerene cages made by electron-impact induced fragmentation of C60 fullerenes have been assembled into several micron thick solid films by low energy cluster beam deposition onto inert substrates held at room temperature under ultrahigh vacuum. The resulting as-prepared material, RT-C58, behaves as an amorphous wide-band semiconductor. Nanoindentation was used to measure its mechanical properties...
High-temperature methane infiltration of thin, free-standing films of acid-treated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) has been studied by means of scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. In the early stages of infiltration, carbon nuclei form predominantly at SWCNT bundle intersections. Further growth proceeds via the formation of graphite nanosheets...
Single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with large diameters from 2 to 5.6 nm were prepared by pulsed laser vaporization of carbon rods doped with Co, Ni and FeS in an atmosphere of Ar:H 2 . The SWNT material was characterized by SEM, HRTEM, Raman, IR, UV-VIS-NIR absorption spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis.
