In this paper, we develop a mathematical model for optical 2D-coding PON monitoring system, to investigate optimal fiber-fault decision performance. The close-form expression for PD (detection probability) and PFA (false-alarm probability) are derived by analyzing target signal, interference and all possible noises. The relationship between SIR and SNR (i.e., noise and interference) under different...
An OTDR similarity trace analyses based effective method for fault location in point-to-multipoint PON is presented and experimentally demonstrated. Fault caused by similar length between the branches can be discriminated.
Master-slave switching nodes with three planes for power grid communications in substation based on software defined network are proposed. A FPGA-based control module and its relative management software as well as an experimental optical switching node are developed, and built, which have verified the switch, control and routing management for the optical switching node. The proposed scheme can realize...
Several protection schemes have been proposed for wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks (WDM-PONs). However these schemes only work under the assumption that all the optical network units (ONUs) and the optical light terminal (OLT) continuously transmit optical signals. In practice, some ONUs may be in sleep mode to save power consumption or may be shut down whenever users are offline...
We propose a tunable encoder/decoder based on polarization modulation for the spectrum amplitude coded-optical code-division multiple access (SAC-OCDMA) passive optical network (PON) and experimentally demonstrate its coding/decoding performance for the first time. The experiment result verifies that the encoder/decoder with 40-dB blocking ratio can fully suppress the unwanted spectral slices and...
We proposed a Upstream Multi-Wavelength Shared PON using a tunable self-seeding FP-LD at ONU. The fiber laser performances are experimentally investigated. The paper also for the first time studies the effect of channel switch latency on the DBA with the IPACT scheme.
A multicast scheme in WDM-PON is realized by superimposing multicast DPSK signal onto downstream point-to-point Manchester/NRZ signal. The proposed system is experimentally demonstrated with 5-Gb/s point-to-point Manchester/NRZ format signal and 1.25-Gb/s DPSK signal. At the receiver side, a MZDI and a LPF are employed to retrieve the multicast DPSK signal.
