This paper proposes a novel direct power control (DPC) scheme for doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). Unlike the conventional DPC using hysteresis comparators, the proposed DPC utilizes nonlinear saturation controllers for the voltage vector selection and duty ratio modulation. This makes the calculation of the duty ratios of the voltage vectors much simpler and independent of DFIG parameters....
The rapid development of Video On Demand (VoD) service especially in wireless network incurs huge bandwidth costs. To reduce the bandwidth pressure and improve the user experience, Wireless Service Providers (WSP) began deploy cache in the Mobile Switching Center (MSC) following the power law distribution observation of video popularity for the whole system. However, based on the Sina Video dataset...
High throughput computing (HTC) systems are widely adopted in scientific discovery and engineering research. They are responsible for scheduling submitted batch jobs to utilize the cluster resources. Current systems mostly focus on managing computing resources like CPU and memory, however, they lack flexible and fine-grained management mechanisms for network resources. This has increasingly been an...
Understanding workload characteristics is critical for optimizing and improving the performance of current systems and software, and architecting new storage systems based on observed workload patterns. In this paper, we characterize the scientific workloads of the world's fastest HPC (High Performance Computing) storage cluster, Spider, at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF). Spider...
In contrast to peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, video-on-demand (VoD) streaming technology over P2P network is still awaiting breakthrough. The demands on scalability, playback deadlines for all peer nodes and playback continuity under a dynamic peer join/leave situation in a lossy P2P network are the major challenges for deploying a P2P based VoD system. In this paper an efficient weight-based caching...
The computing power of microprocessors has exponentially increased in the past few decades, so the support to compute intensive multimedia applications has increased too. With such improved computing power, memory subsystem deficiency becomes the major barrier to support video decoder on the Digital Signal Processor (DSP). H.264/AVC becomes the next generation of video codec for embedded systems....
