The compact terahertz (THz) radiation source based on Smith-Purcell (SP) effect has been expected to be the next-generation table-top THz free electron laser (THz-FEL). We have performed a numerical simulation of the generation of SP radiation at THz frequency under the condition of using the electron beam (e-beam) with high repetition THz frequency by simplified particle-in-cell finite difference-time...
This paper reports the fabrication and characterization results of a silicon micro mirror fabricated by integrated of top-down fabrication of CNTs thin film and conventional micromachining. The silicon mirror is suspended by CNT hinge and actuated by using electrostatic force through angular vertical comb system. The performance of the mirror had been characterized. Thanks to the excellent mechanical...
The paper reports on characterization of piezoresistive coefficients and Seebeck effect of aligned single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) forest film. The film was synthesized by water-assisted chemical vapour deposition (CVD), a process known as ??super growth??. CNT film was condensed, manually maneuvered and conveniently patterned by EB lithography to form desirable shapes. The piezoresistive coefficient...
Regular reflectance measurements of a forest of vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes were made as a function of an incident angle for the S- and P-polarized lights in the infrared region. The low reflectance measured at normal incidence, 0.0005-0.0009, supports a model of a low material density and also the incident angle dependence of reflectance spectra for the S- and P-polarized lights...
Magnetite Fe2O3 whiskers are synthesized by thermal oxidation of a stainless steel substrate and identified as a single crystal extending in <110> direction by transmission electron microscopy. Field emission microscope (FEM) equipped with Mott polarization analyzer under pressure of 2times10-8 Pa are carried out to confirm the origin of Verwey transition...
The author developed a method to grow CNTs selectively onto an apex of W-tip using "selective etching" method. Here the author reports that this method is also valid to control the number of CNTs at the W-tip.
In this study, a spin-polarized electron source which can operate at room temperature is reported. <110>-oriented single crystal magnetite whiskers 30 to 200 nm in diameter were synthesized on a stainless steel plate by the combustion flame thermal oxidation process. Microscopic analyses revealed that the whiskers have some defects such as stacking faults and dislocations and also that manganese...
In order to improve the brightness of gas field ion source (GFIS), numerical simulations of field distribution around the tip apex and the shank were performed taking into account an increase of gas capture area for field ionization. This experiment results of ion current at gas temperature 300K and the calculation results at same condition are compared to confirm the reliability of the calculations...
Now a day, focused ion beam (FIB) systems equipped with a gallium liquid metal ion source (Ga-LMIS) have been used in the wide areas, e.g., photo-mask repair for semiconductor devices, micro-fabrication for MEMS, sample preparation for TEM and so on. However, contaminations by the irradiated gallium ions are severe problems in these applications, thus for an FIB system in the next generation, a development...
We propose a new drawing tool based on the dynamics of collective behaviors reported in our previous work. Dynamics of collective motion is described by fundamental kinetics of particles and the dynamics of the heading which each element has as a degree of freedom. We firstly explain the model in detail and show various types of behavior such as marching, oscillatory, wandering and swarming emerges...
AIS (ship-borne automatic identification system) is a system that enables a ship to get information about encountered ships, such as their position, course, speed, name etc. automatically by VHF radio transmission. The system is expected to contribute the improvement of marine traffic control and safety. In some congested waterways overloaded/conflicted transmission of AIS is a potential problem in...
In this study, the CNT growth by the RF-PECVD is sensitive to the granulation condition of catalyst film. It is expected that further precise control of the granulation of catalyst film enables further improvement of controllability of CNT growth that gives better FE characteristics.
In this paper, newly developed high spatial resolution X-ray radiography system (HR-XRS) by modifying the compact SEM equipped with the MWCNT cathode former was reported. The X-ray images of the Cu 300 mesh were taken as a demonstration of the XRS. The resolution less than 1 mum was achieved. It is suggested that the MWCNT cathode is suitable one for the HR-XRS.
In this paper, novel and simple fabrication method of CNT field emitter by means of direct growth of CNT onto tungsten tip by CVD was developed. This method enables a fabrication of a high-quality CNT field emitter with simpler procedures than conventional methods. Aluminum (Al), nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo) films were sequentially deposited onto a W tip with tip radius of ~ 0.1 micrometer. Ni...
