Single atom catalysts have attracted wide attention due to their high catalytic activity for CO oxidation. We performed density functional theory (DFT) calculations to investigate the various reaction mechanisms of CO oxidation catalyzed by the single Pd atom embedded defect-graphene system as well as the analysis of the structural and electronic properties. It is found that the CO oxidation on Pd-graphene...
Carbon-microtube ring were synthesized by a multi-step template mechanism. Firstly, silica microrings were produced as template by the oxidization of silicon wafer, and then the silica microrings were coated with carbon layers from the decomposed methane. Finally, the silica microrings were removed with hydrofluoric acid, which allows the formation of carbon-microtube rings.
Drastically different catalytic behaviors of nanometer-sized platinum particles which have diverse sizes are observed using in-situ transmission electron microscopy. For small platinum catalyst particles (with diameters less than 5nm), carbon shells form on the surfaces of the platinum catalyst particles. The formation of the carbon shells starts from the nucleation of amorphous carbon on the preferred...
