Performance monitoring of an OOK fiber optic communication line may require knowledge of a static and dynamic characteristics of an optical modulator used. In the paper a method for identification of such characteristics for a non-zero chirp Mach-Zehnder optical modulator is presented. The modulator of interest is modeled as a cascade of a linear FIR filter and a parametrized nonlinearity. Data for...
Optical fibre line with polarization scramblers is modelled as a time-variant linear system. The formula for time varying impulse response of such a system is derived and relations to PMD and to parameters of scramblers control are shown. One possible application of the time varying impulse response is considered and illustrated with results of simulations.
Five parameters that describe a static characteristics of a non-zero chirp Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator and a method for their estimation from intensity samples are proposed. The practical value of the parameters and of the method of their estimation is examined in laboratory experiments.
