We demonstrate robust and precise frequency domain chromatic dispersion estimation based on offline data and simulations. The blind, least complexity algorithm allows fast acquisition suitable for digital coherent receivers in switched networks.
PMD compensation for 40 Gb/s Apol RZ-DPSK is successfully demonstrated using different feedback methods. Eye-opening feedback exhibits the lowest penalty. Experiments indicate a mean PMD tolerance of 5.3 ps for an outage probability of 10-5.
We discuss simple methods to generate alternate polarization (APol) formats, and experimentally study the transmission performance of the APol formats for both 40-Gb/s dispersion-managed (DM) systems and 10-Gb/s DM-soliton systems.
We propose a multichannel PMD mitigation scheme using forward-error-correction (FEC) and distributed fast polarization scramblers that randomize PMD during each FEC burst-error-correcting-period. Numerical evaluations show substantial improvement in PMD tolerance and reduction in outage probability.
