This paper investigates the performance of the single slot ring element for Ka-band reflectarray designs. Using the element rotation technique, two Ka-band circularly polarized reflectarray prototypes are designed and implemented, with different thicknesses of the substrate. The bandwidth is significantly enhanced when a thick substrate is used.
Using split square ring elements and the modified element rotation technique, an X-band circularly polarized reflectarray is designed and implemented through microstrip technology. At 8.4 GHz, the reflectarray prototype has a gain of 30.4 dB and an aperture efficiency of 53.7%. The fractional axial ratio bandwidth is 6%, while the 3 dB gain bandwidth is 7%.
This paper proposes a novel tri-band reflectarray antenna design. The antenna consists of three different types of elements: split circular ring for Ka band operation, split square loop for C band operation, and cross-dipole element for X band operation. An advantage of the antenna is that all three types of elements are aligned and fabricated on a single layer of substrate. This single-layer design...
A Ku/Ka dual-band reflectarray has been developed as a demonstration model for the next generation of Titan cloud precipitation radar and altimeter (TCPRA). The reflectarray developed is a substitute of a parabolic cylindrical reflector and it is offset-fed by two linear arrays. The antenna has a 50-cm-square aperture and uses two 2-mil thick membranes for both bands enabling transformation into a...
An X/Ka dual-band microstrip reflectarray with circular polarization (CP) has been constructed using thin membranes and Cassegrain offset-fed configuration. It is believed that this is the first Cassegrain reflectarray ever been developed. This antenna has a 75-cm-diameter aperture and uses metallic subreflector and angular-rotated annular ring elements. It achieved a measured -3 dB-gain bandwidth...
The gain of circularly polarised (CP) array antennas realised by proper phasing of sequentially rotated linearly polarised (LP) elements is compared to that of arrays using CP elements and demonstrated by calculations for microstrip patch elements. When element spacing is large and array size is small, the advantages of LP elements are offset by the significant reduction in gain due to high cross...
