Photonic integration is as an enabling technology for photonic quantum science, providing great experimental scalability, stability, and functionality. Although the increasing complexity of quantum photonic circuits has allowed proof-of-principle demonstrations of quantum computation, simulation, and metrology[1], further development is severely limited by the on-chip photon flux that can be made...
Current and future high energy physics particle colliders are capable to provide instantaneous luminosities of 1034 cm−2 s−1 and above. The high center of mass energy, the large number of simultaneous collision of beam particles in the experiments and the very high repetition rates of the collision events pose huge challenges. They result in extremely high particle fluxes, causing very high occupancies...
Optical modulators are central to a large number of applications in photonics particularly in the area of communication as they provide the function of writing electrical data onto an optical carrier. Silicon photonics provides a route to the realisation of low cost photonic integrated circuits through fabrication which is synonymous with CMOS electronic fabrication, i.e., high volume and high yield...
We introduce a platform based on passive and electro-optic polymers, and present a serial 100G transmitter with 22-nm tunability. We achieve 100-Gb/s transmission over 1625-m, and demonstrate the flexibility of the transmitter inside data-center networks.
Single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and graphene have emerged as promising saturable absorbers (SAs), due to their broad operation bandwidth and fast recovery times [1-3]. However, Yb-doped fiber lasers mode-locked using CNT and graphene SAs have generated relatively long pulses. All-fiber cavity designs are highly favored for their environmental robustness. Here, we demonstrate an all-fiber Yb-doped...
A one dimensional spectral model of a self-organizing external cavity laser diode with a PR crystal in the external cavity was developed. The model combines the photon-carrier density coupled rate equations model and a plane wave PR crystal model. The model confirms that the self-organizing external cavity laser diode operates in a single longitudinal mode with an output power up to 0.55 W.
