The use of ultra-high magnetic fields (more than 7 Tesla) in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide a much higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) compared to commonly used 3T clinical MRI scanners. It will enable the in-vivo imaging of human anatomical details that have never been seen before with other imaging techniques. However, conventional radiofrequency (RF) coils are no longer suitable for...
Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners are bulky and heavy. It limits their applications at places, for example, in an ambulance or in a combat field hospital. The disadvantages of a conventional MRI system have led to increasing interests in the development of a portable MRI one. One of the challenges for a portable MRI scanner is to build a homogenous static magnetic field within...
In this paper, we present two of our coil designs recently developed for human head coil for 10.5T MRI scanners. They are the eight-shaped and the double-loop segmented coils. They both show homogeneous magnetic field distribution with good input impedance matching at the corresponding Larmor frequency. Homogeneous coil sensitivities are achieved.
Simultaneous imaging systems combining positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have been actively investigated. A PET/MR imaging system (GE Healthcare) comprised of a time-of-flight (TOF) PET system utilizing silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) and 3-tesla (3T) MRI was recently installed at our institution. The small-ring (60 cm diameter) TOF PET subsystem of this PET/MRI...
Numerical analysis for the radiation of an elementary dipole is presented when it is located over a half-space gyroelectric medium, a grounded gyroelectric slab, and inside the slab. It is revealed that the direction of the maximum radiated field for a dipole over a half-space gyroelectric medium corresponds to the critical angles where total internal reflection occurs. Usually 6-dB enhancement can...
Applying the method of stationary phase to the dyadic Green's function for layered anisotropic medium, the explicit expression for the radiated electric field from an arbitrarily oriented Hertzian dipole over layered gyroelectric medium is obtained. Numerical analysis for the radiation of elementary dipole over half-space gyroelectric medium is presented and the results are discussed. A relation between...
The method of monitoring the wear of piston ring with a magneto-resistive sensor for a marine diesel engine is presented in the paper. The magnetic field intensity variations caused by both the wear and the motion of piston ring are analyzed by simulation. The theoretical basis for monitoring the wear of piston ring with the magneto-resistive sensor for the marine diesel engine is provided.
We fabricated AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructure-based quantum Hall devices for the resistance standard at Center for Measurement Standards (CMS). The measurements using a Direct Current Comparator (DCC) show the consistency between the plateaus of v=2 and 4 at the temperature T=2 K, where v is the filling factor. On the other hand, the plateaus of higher filling factors may be susceptible to the reduced...
