Over 108% single-pass net gains were achieved at wavelength of 1550 and 1500 nm both in highly transparent Er3+ doped and in Er3+ and Yb3+ codoped electro-optic lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) ceramics.
Using Nd3+ doped lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) ceramic gain media which possess excellent electro-optic effects and wide optical transmission window, ceramic lasers of revolutionary nature have been implemented without any extra foreign active components.
This paper provides a brief overview on recent advances in the exploitation of III-nitride semiconductors for optical communications, such as epitaxial growth of Er-doped III-nitride materials by MOCVD and optical waveguide fabrication. Advantages and challenges of this emerging technology will be discussed
We report a new substituted polydiacetylene compound that shows excellent switching properties. All-optical switching in the new compound has been measured using 8 ns pulses width. The switching down and switching up times are 33 ns and 27 ns, respectively. The experimental results show that the switching process is attributed to excited state absorption of the new polymer molecules.
