In this paper, the applications of recent developed double side electro-absorption modulated DFB laser (DS-EML) for high speed optical short reach and metro networking will be discussed.
A 112Gbit/s single polarization half-cycle 16QAM Nyquist-subcarrier-modulation signal was generated and transmitted over 10km of SMF employing 25Gbps EML and direct detection for short reach communications. This is the highest reported bit rate of direct detected half-cycle 16QAM Nyquist-SCM signal on single wavelength and single polarization.
A novel chromatic dispersion (CD) monitoring method by using the cross-correlation function for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) system has been demonstrated. The monitoring method is easy to implement and monitoring sensitivity is high.
We propose a dispersion monitoring technique using the power ratio of two RF tones with a dispersion offset, and demonstrate that this technique can monitor a wide range of accumulated dispersion with a good sensitivity.
