On this paper, a study of state-of-art technologies and techniques for energy harvesting from piezoelectric materials with a focus in bulk power harvesting and production is performed. This study includes improvements in mechanical and electrical configurations to be considered in order to design and implement high-performance energy harvesting systems as well as primary performance and costs estimations of roadway and railway energy harvesting systems, and a comparison of costs with other renewable energy harvesting systems.
